How to Reasonably Store Rubber Seals

Most rubber seals materials, including vulcanized rubber and other elastomers, tend to have more or less performance changes during storage, and unreasonable storage will accelerate the aging of seals or even lead to cracks and other damages, which will directly affect the life of rubber seals.

Reasonable factors of store rubber seals

1. Temperature for store rubber seals

Generally speaking, the storage temperature of rubber seals should not exceed 50℃ (120℉), and if possible, it should be kept within 30℃. Cold temperatures are not permanently harmful to most rubber products, as long as they are handled carefully and not hung up or pressurized. When removed from a low-temperature environment, the material temperature should be raised to approximately 30°C (70°F) before use.

2. Humidity

The optimum humidity is about 65% in an environment without airflow. During spring and summer when humidity is high, stock should be reasonably controlled and large quantities of stock rubber seals should not be stocked.

3. Light (sunlight, strong artificial light)

It is important to avoid direct sunlight and artificial light with high UV content. Unless stored in opaque packaging, it is recommended to cover windows with red or orange colored glass or coatings.

4. Oxygen and Ozone

Elastic articles should be protected from air circulation as much as possible. Since ozone is particularly harmful to rubber, storage warehouses should avoid equipment that may cause electrical sparks or discharges. Vulcanized rubber products should be stored in packages, sealed containers or other suitable means.

5. Deformation

Rubber seals should be stored in a loose, flat state, without being pulled or pressurized. Avoid hanging or crushing to avoid deformation.

6. Contact with liquid and semi-solid substances

All sealing materials, parts should avoid contact with liquid and semi-solid materials (especially with is solvents, such as oil or grease).

7. Contact with metal

Manganese, iron and copper, and other metals or copper alloys may harm the rubber, you can use cardboard or cellophane compartments to separate them.
